Throughout the story Ray writes down outlandish ideas such as there “HappyLife” home costing thirty-thousand dollars with state of the art technology. Regular homes in today’s day and age can cost upwards to millions of dollars with advanced features. Another far fetched example is when he states “They went off to the air tube, where a wind blew them like brown leaves up to their sleeping rooms” the nearest idea to this is elevators, yet, it is not to be compared to the idea Ray presents. One more unrealistic concept are the futuristic dining tables. In this story dining tables are responsible for making instant meals for the family at any given time such as when George Hadley says “We forgot the tomato sauce,” soon after tomato sauce appears. Our technology has not came close to this idea as humans are still required to prepare and make food. These comparisons make the reader question if the futuristic goods are still in the process of being created within the next few years. One thing is certain, however, despite the short story being published in the 1950’s a majority of the commodities became true inventions in our society we live in
