Born and raised in Kenya, I permanently immigrated to the US in 1999. In addition to English, I also speak Swahili and German and look forward to utilizing these languages as a nursing professional, at least at a point in my career. Currently, I am enrolled in an MSN – Informatics Degree Program at Capella University and I hope to begin your doctoral program at the University of South Alabama in the spring of 2017.
The University of South Alabama is my primary choice among DNP programs in Informatics since it has a particularly distinguished faculty and a remarkably creative and inspiring curriculum. I could not be happier with my chosen field and I especially feel strongly that the University of South Alabama is the optimal springboard to propel me to the cutting edge of service to society in the area of health informatics, especially with respect to remote patient monitoring and reporting.
My ultimate contribution to society would be the improvement of interdisciplinary workflow processes in nursing by designing, implementing and improving health information systems, thereby improving patient outcomes and decreasing health care costs (Fitzpatrick, 2010). Acquiring enough knowledge and experience will also enable me to teach nursing students, and in so doing, contribute to the reduction of the nursing shortage that is predicted to be a staggering 800,000 nurses by 2020 (Campaign for Nursing Future, 2016).
