A body cannot work without a properly functioning brain. Our brains allow us to do many things, such as think, feel emotions, and perform different tasks. People with dementia, unfortunately, lose the ability to perform even the simplest everyday tasks. It typically affects older aged people, anywhere from fifty years old and above. Dementia is not exactly a specific disease, but “rather a group of symptoms that may accompany certain diseases or conditions” (“Types”). Dementia can be caused by various different diseases, depending on the part of the brain that is affected. There are two types of dementia: the ones that are not reversible and the few that are reversible. The cases that are not reversible, worsen throughout the years; these are called progressive dementia. The most common disease to cause progressive dementia is Alzheimer’s, which is when the cognitive functions, such as speech, memory, and judgement, decline. A common type of dementia is vascular dementia, which is caused by repeated small strokes. These strokes may not be the only cause for dementia in a person; it can be combined with a disease, such as Alzheimer’s. Huntington’s disease is another type of disease that can play a role in dementia. Huntington’s disease is an inherited disease in which certain brain nerves linked to one’s thinking abilities begin to decline, including walking and movement. Some people are lucky enough to be able to reverse dementia if it is discovered and treated right away.…
