“You know my name, not my story. You’ve heard what I’ve done not what I have been through. If you were in my shoes, you’d fall the first step.” This quote describes Boo Radley in the sense that people always were quick to judge him and believe all the rumors that they heard. Boo was a very misunderstood character in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. While reading the book, the true Boo Radley is shown, along with the journey to the readers and other characters realizing his personality, when in fact he is not creepy or scary, but is caring, helpful, and protective. At the beginning of the book, Boo Radley is perceived to be very creepy and scary. People in Maycomb heard a rumor from Miss Stephanie, who loves to gossip about everything.”As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent’s leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants and resumed his activities.” (Lee, 13) That’s not a normal thing to do. His actions could, and was supposedly, assumed to be attempted homicide. Over the years Jem had put together a description of Boo. “There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped,and he drooled most of the time.” (Lee, 16) Jem made Boo sound like a zombie that fed on animals, and was absolutely not a pleasant sight.
