Why Is Boo Radley Alive

Improved Essays
There is tons of evidence supporting why Dill, Scout, and Jem will not see Boo Radley. To begin, Boo is most likely not even alive. For example, Boo Radley has not been seen in a very long time. The text states, “People said he existed, but Jem and I had never seen him” (Lee 10). The fact that Jem and Scout live near the Radley house yet had never seen Boo outside or even in the window suggests that he is not alive. Nobody in the entire town has said to have recently seen Boo, even though he was seen all the time in the past. Another piece of evidence supporting the fact that Boo is dead is there has been no evidence of his recent crimes. The author remarks, “Any stealthy small crimes committed in Maycomb were his work. Once the town was terrorized by a series of morbid nocturnal events: people’s chickens and household pets were found mutilated; …show more content…
Jem had never declined a dare, but when introduced to this one he says, “’It’s just that I can’t think of a way to make him come out without him gettin’ us.’… When he said that, I knew he was afraid” (Lee 17) Jem rarely shows that he is scared of anything, but the subject of the Radley’s almost pushed him over the edge. Because of this, it can be inferred that the kids will all be too scared to actually try and see Boo Radley, especially after all of the terrible stories they had heard. The second reason why the kids will be too scared to see Boo is because the entire town is scared. The text declares, “Nobody in Maycomb had nerve enough to tell Mr. Radley that his boy was in the wrong crowd” (lee 12). Children are often influenced by the actions of the adults around them, and all of these adults are terrified of the Radley’s, which gives the kids another reason to be frightened of Boo. If no adult has the courage to see Boo, than kids do not stand a chance. The final reason why the kids will be too scared to see Boo Radley is because of Boo’s

The main reason that Scout is so scared is because she trusts her older brother and he is always making up stories about Boo or telling her stories he has heard. One speculation is that if you knock on Boo Radleys front door he will kill you. Because of all the rumors the kids are too scared to put a toe in the Radleys front yard. Jem also mentioned that Boo is the only reason Miss Rachel locked up so tight at night.
