Macbeth by William Shakespeare is a play that centers around a tragic hero that possesses the traits of being overly confident, ambitious, and power-hungry. In comparison, Justin Bieber is a teenage pop singer that evokes many emotions among people. Some may argue that he is self-absorbed, egotistical, and ignorant. Others may claim that he is only a misunderstood teenager who suffers from the pressure of attention from the media and fans. Both Macbeth and Justin Bieber share similarities and differences: high rank, extraordinary talents, tragic flaws that inevitably lead to their downfall, and the courage to confirm their errors in judgement.
Macbeth and Justin Bieber’s definition of high rank are distinguished both differently and similarly. After murdering the former King Duncan, Macbeth was immediately crowned as the new sovereign of Scotland. Duncan rewarded Macbeth for his bravery on the battleground with the honor of becoming the Thane of Cawdor, “Welcome hither. / I have begun to plant thee, and will labor / To make thee full of growing” (1.4.28-30). Duncan presented Macbeth with this gift because Macbeth was a loyal and outstanding soldier. Similarly, Justin Bieber rose to fame in 2010, with the goal of being an inspiration to young teens with sweet messages in his desirable songs.
