Although all people are made the same way in every culture, the different human beings are still judged by their physical appearance. "Poor Fish" and "The Tall Woman and Her Short Husband" can describe the negative attitude towards different people. In the story "Poor Fish" by Alberto Moravia, the couple of a poor dishwasher and girl named Ida was not accepted by another couple who seemed very strong and powerful, because they were just odd looking. In "The Tall Woman and Her Short Husband", Mr. Short and Mrs. Tall were judged by the difference in the height. When Cultural Revolution happened, Mr. Short had problems with his research and was put into jail, as he returns Mrs. Tall died. So, the stories "Poor Fish" by Alberto Moravia and "The Tall Woman and Her Short Husband" by Feng Ji-Cai share a universal theme of prejudice and uneven power. The story "The Tall Woman and Her Short Husband" occurs during the Cultural Revolution, when most of the people were forced labor and working on factories was more important than having an education. So, the intellectual population of the country was vanished and people who tried to leave the country were punished, because it was against revolutionary principles; so, "He was accused of smuggling out the results of his research to write up at home in the evenings, with a view to fleeing the country to join a wealthy relative abroad" (Ji-cai 488).
