We as women, as caretakers, as comforters are often forced to put our own personal feelings on the back burner in order to take care of those we love. Eve took the blame and made a lesson out of it in the end, as we see in the very last sentence in the narrative where she says, “I would dedicate the rest of my life to committing myself to our Lord Jesus Christ, proving to Him that I am sorry and that I am worthy of walking the paths of Paradise.”. Nevertheless, Eve at one point started to question Adam’s motives for blaming her. Eve’s guilt eventually haunted her enough that she started to question him. She was searching for any kind of way to take some of the burden and blame off of her shoulders just so that she could take a breath for one second. Genesis tells us that Eve was made from Adam, “This one at last, bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh, this one shall be called Woman, for from man was this one taken. Therefore, does a man leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife and they become one flesh.” I wanted to reveal the real, internal parts of a marriage and uncover what really happens to a couple in times of warfare and desperation. Although the two humans were made to be one, grief and fear separated the two lovers’ hearts and minds. Adam let Eve down in more ways than one. Adam immediately put the blame on Eve, not taking into consideration how Eve would feel with that burden. Not only that, Adam neglected to comfort Eve when she was scared too. Eve said in the narrative, “We were supposed to be one, yet I felt so alone and detached.” I chose key words like “alone” and “detached” to represent Eve’s depression that stemmed from Adam’s blame. Once you learn that the person who was supposed to be your “backbone and ribs” throughout your lifetime is not a man of their word, the world can turn really cold and scary. It is a feeling that mostly anyone who has ever had their heart broken before can relate to. In my story, throughout her heartbreak and let down, Eve really stayed loyal to the special bond that is marriage.
