The Natives of the Northwest Coast beliefs, customs, and history were passed down via word through songs, dances and stories. They told stories about certain things had occurred in their society, such as, changes in the seasons. Also, they addressed via stories how each group had first appeared into this word stories that were passed down from generation to generation subsequently. Believing they were surrounded, at all times, by interference of supernatural beings in the natural world. Spirits were connected to all living things in their culture.…
Native American beliefs could be viewed as having general doctrine and slightly variations within many tribes, each has a unique detail and incorporations they focused in. Differences noted could be the celebrations made where as some used the incorporation of drums or healers. The Iroquois was one of largest tribes having some specific qualities in beliefs. The parallels of the creation stories of the Hawaiian’s and that of Hinduism is too evident to not compare. While the stories have many variances, the context and effect in their particular region is almost identical. Both stories tell of a time where emptiness and unknowns were the norm, however the stories of Kumulipo and Purushasukta parallel in the creation of the world as we know it through a specific event whether it be the sacrifice of the ultimate being or a night of creation. The parallelism of the creation stories is not a mere act of coincidence, as we would later discuss of the parallels of Zoroastrianism and Christianity with both having a constant battle of good and evil.…
Morris writes, “They were called ants, dragonflies, beetles, bats, and locusts, but they were spiritual beings, not insects or animals.” (“Navajo Creation” 27) The Navajo’s believe the spirits were in nature forms. Also, the “Holy People” consisted of “Talking God,” “Water Sprinkler,” “Calling God,” and “Fire God,” which appeared to give instructions on making “First Man” and “First Woman” of buckskins and corn. “These were the first real people, five-fingered beings.”…
In many Native tribe myths there are gods and goddesses whom are spoken of, such as one of the greatest gods who went by the name Red Man. Within the Cherokee tribe they were connected to the world by spiritual beings, such as elemental gods of the Sun, Fire, and Water. “The Cherokee, or ‘The real people’ lived in what is today present Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina” (Raley). In Cherokee Mythology they believed in one Supreme Being who taught them to treat the world with great respect; to this day, traditions of the Cherokee ancestors are still followed by many. Within believing in one spiritual being the myths told by elders have helped teach the young many lessons in life.…

There are many creation stories, each unique to a particular religion and as a result they vary in many ways depending on the religions particular faith, beliefs and views. The hypothesis that will be explored is, the two Abrahamic religions Christianity and Judaism withhold a broad spectrum of beliefs and subsequently interpret the origin stories in both similar ways, influencing their world views. Subsequently, it is evident that due to their beliefs and ideologies regarding the two origin stories and world views, conservative Christians and Orthodox Jews live a stewardship way of life. There are a broad spectrum of attitudes and beliefs within Christianity and Judaism which lie within the individual beliefs of a person within the religion.…
Religious Experience of Native Americans The Native American religious experience from before the European presence to the 20th century underwent many transformations throughout its evolution. In the beginning, the Olmec and Mayan hierarchical civilizations believed their kings, who were also their religious leaders, were able to communicate with the Gods and ancestors. This demonstrated how the early Native Americans believed that supernatural forces existed. This belief in the supernatural led to the Native Americans developing a cultural relationship between themselves and nature, with the intent to maintain a harmonic balance between the spiritual and living world (Unit 1, Lecture 1).…
I have never been one with strong held believes in the creation of humans or life on earth from god or gods. I lean heavier towards the theory of life evolution. How does what I believe in and what I have read on American Indian beliefs compare to one another. Also how their creations myths and legends compare to my current beliefs and the Christian and other teachings I grow up with. I will be looking at the Apache, Navajo, and Iroquois creation myth and legend stories.…
The origin of knowledge is presented to Christians from God. As mentioned earlier, we are made in his image. Therefore God, being “the central intelligence agency of the universe” is all-knowing and responsible for providing us with the knowledge and intellect needed upon our creation (Alin). With this shared intellect God has placed each person on earth for a specific purpose to better the world. Through the use of art, music, science, medicine, etc.…

The Pan-African and African American holiday, Kwanzaa, is the celebration of family, community, and culture. In addition, this cultural holiday established in 1965 by Dr. Maulana Karenge, a dominant figure in the Black Power Movement, with the ambition of delivering African Americans with a gateway to their ancestral heritage. The aspiration of this holiday target was to bring together African Americans as a community through combinations of several perspectives from other celebrations such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and African Yam Festivals. Since Kwanzaa is a cultural holiday, not religion based, it’s celebrated by any African from all religious settings.…
No one person can be completely defined by their culture. Culture can be defined as any beliefs, knowledge, and attitude shared by a group of people. Personally, I identify as Polish and English, but I celebrate the Polish culture more. There are more than just cultures to influence a person. Some of my personal influences are being diagnosed with Graves’ Disease, my father, and growing up in an “Army family.”…
