WebMD stated that “The single biggest cause of type 2 diabetes in children is extra weight. In the U.S., nearly 1 out of every 3 children is overweight” (WebMD, 2015, para 1). Type 2 diabetes is an insulin problem, which means your body has a harder time breaking down sugar. This is how high blood pressure plays a factor in type 2 diabetes. Children start to have less energy and an increase in hunger and if children continue to eat more than they need they will start to store more fat because their body is not able to use it as energy. Children who have type 2 diabetes can experience a lot of health problems in the future with their heart, kidney, eyes, etc. Children need energy to be able to function in school and to be able to perform psychical activates like a normal kid. Parents need to understand that childhood obesity is a serious problem that is increasing rapidly in kids. Children that are obese have a high percentage of health problems in the future that deal with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and psychological problems. Parent’s needs to take a stand on childhood obesity, parents should make sure that their kids have a balanced nutrition. Parents especially need to make sure that their kids stay active because as of now most children spend 7 hours plus in front of a screen.
