ORLAN is mostly associated with the early Feminist Movement era(1960s) where women frustrated about the discrimination they dealt with in the work place and started to reject the obscurity by men especially biological and cultural wise. ORLAN’s most famous artwork would be The Reincarnation of Saint ORLAN, in which she undergoes multiple plastic surgeries to resemble herself as classic works of art and sculptures. The surgeries were filmed and shown in quite a few galleries around the world. She started the piece in 1990 and it is part of her Carnal Art platform which her mission is to portray the idea of the beauty of women by acquiring certain features painted by male artist such as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Botticelli's Venus, Jean-Léon Gérôme's Psyche, and Diana 16th-century French School of Fontainebleu painting. She stated that she chose those pieces because of their representation not particular there looks and will continue to until she has certain features from each
