When someone struggle to succeed in any aspect and any country, it can lead to make bad decision. In "Pura Principle", Rafa was facing with a leukaemia cancer and recently married Pura and moved to her house, but afterward Rafa was seen without a job and was trying to succeed, so the struggle lead him to stealing from his mother. "Rafa was taking the money my mother kept stashed in her room!"( The Pura Principle). After a while of Rafa been married he was struggling with money and living and Pura was no help at all, so his one and easier option was stealing from his mother. In "Immigrants in our own land", Baca describes the expectation that immigrants have on United States to success is really high and they come over here to run away from the government and the status of the lives they used to live in their country, although it's nothing different compared to their country. In the poem baca says " But it's no different here. It's all concentrated. The doctor don't care, our bodies decay, our minds deteriorate, we learn nothing of value"(Baca). While trying to succeed in America it can change someone lifestyle to worst leading them to retire earlier and end up
