This article hopes to break down some of the myths these private prison corporations have used to push their agenda and discuss how they are untrue. By doing so, the reader can form his/her own conclusions on how pervasive and detrimental private prisons have become within our communities.

The welfare of everyone in these facilities, both employees and inmates, should be of the utmost priority. Even though this should take precedence before anything else, the well-being of the individuals is pushed to the sidelines in order to increase the corporation’s profits. Recent stories and studies have shown a light on how dangerous these facilities’ environments are compared to state-run facilities. While these stories have brought the private prison complex to the forefront for discussion, history has shown that this is not a new dilemma. Consequently, corners are cut to save money. To save money, these corporations run the risk of being short-staffed. Ultimately, this will put the other security personnel on duty, and even the other prisoners, in danger as the potential for riots and other violence skyrockets.

After previous research, done both for class and on my own time, I felt that it was necessary to use this article assignment to discuss the problems associated with the private prison system. When I began researching the article, I initially went to known sites that are primarily for people in my field.
