though no one had told Henrietta that TeLinde was collecting samples or asked if she wanted to be a doner- Wharton picked up a sharp knife and shaved two dime-sized pieces of tissue from Henrietta’s cervix: one from her tumor, and one from the healthy cervical tissue nearby (33). As a doctor he knew to ask for Henrietta’s permission. TeLinde misused his practice for the money of producing cells. Not once did Henrietta know what was going on but she continued to go to John Hopkins. Henrietta being the patient should have been told the truth, the doctor could lose his job or he could have compensated her for her cells that were being used. Not only has science proven to be corrupt by the cloning of cells or humans but by creating life that is recreated through scientific doings. Mary Shelley in her novel Frankenstein describes “A flash of lightning illuminated the object and discovered its shape plainly to [me]; its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect, more hideous than belongs to humanity, instantly informed [me] that it was the wretch, the filthy demon whom [I] had given life” (72). Shelley acknowledges that Victor hates the horrific monster he has given life to. Life is not something people should toy with, but it is something that we are granted to have by only God. science should not be able to give life to animals or people that are …show more content…
Though through the dislike of science corrupting the ways of life, and things that should be left alone scientists have found advantages in helping cure diseases and many other things. Influences of getting cells can help, “ in theory, that they could be used eventually to treat all sorts of illnesses, including diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and spinal cord injuries” (Doucleff and Stein 1). This would be a major break through that scientist of the present day are still trying to figure out. Science has shown that there are upsides to taking cells to study and create new medicines or experiment in medical treatment to help the sick. Although the scientists can try “to cure disease” they can also “help women deliver healthy, normal children” (Stein 1). Many pregnant mothers have dealt and continue to deal with problems during birth and this gives them a chance to not worry whether or not their baby will have any kind of major problems. This is a plus for women because many have children with birth defects and numerous other problems. By using we are now able to do more than ever possible. We have come up with new medicines, we can also do procedures that require the use of the cells to help another person live
