In early childhood it is in the best interests of the educator to invent and develop an environment that encompasses the child 's growth and learning abilities. By doing so, the educator begins to gain an insight towards how the child interacts with others, learn through play and the way he/she interprets what they are learning. Through this observation educators start to recognise the strengths and the challenges the child is faced with. By doing so introduces a concept of the Strengths-based Approach, which is a tool “used to help people identify and discuss their strengths” (McCashen, 2005, p. 6).

The Strengths-based Approach is used as a resource to help identify, acknowledge and work through ways to help children and their families become aware of their abilities and embrace them in attempts to define “the positive basis of the person’s resource”(Hammond, 2010p. 2). The framework seems to be applied in early childhood education, which can guide children, families and the community into “a positive outcome” (Pegg, 2015). Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological model (Bowes, Grace & Hodge, 2012) contributes to the study of child maturation and “the active role of the child and the interrelationships among multiple determinants of development” (p. 8), and the idea of the proximal processes.
