When I first heard about the Oral History project I did not know what to expect. After reading the assignment in more detail, I was excited to start the project. I immediately knew I would pick my mother for the project. She is my best friend and I wanted to learn more about her growing up with such a big family. After going over the assignment, I called my mother and asked if she would participate in the project and she said yes. I was delighted to hear her say that because I instantly started formulating my questions to ask about her history. During spring break is when I asked most of my questions. I enjoyed listening to my mother answering each question because she was excited and happy to share with me about her past. I also enjoyed looking at the photos of her parents, all ten of her siblings, and my parent’s wedding. There were some things my mother could not remember like what her favorite toy was growing up. She did remember having to do several chores. Her favorite chore was washing the dishes, and her least favorite was hanging the laundry on the clothesline. Since there were eleven children, there were a lot of clothes to wash. I learned some things about my mother that I did not know. I am so glad I chose her for this project. After interviewing my mother, I quickly made any notes in an organized fashion before time dulls the details. I want to do the best to capture accurate details of my mother’s past.
