Regarding immigration, Senator Sanders’s presidential plan reflects upon the themes and central ideas shown in the poem, The New Colossus. In this case, that America is open for anyone everywhere. Bernie resolution states that, “ all undocumented people who have been in the United States for at least five years to stay in the country without fear of being deported”.(Enforcement, par 2.) Bernie will do so through expanding the DACA and DAPA, developed by our current president, President Obama. The poem, The New Colossus, describes, “Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”(Lazarus, line 13-14) That sentence is arguing that America can take care of everyone in any situation, and is there to help those in horrible situations, yet, for most immigrants today that is not true. An uttermost amount of immigrants are in a no better situation, and at times worse. Instead of just being homeless, now they have police, deportation, being separated from your child to fear. Bernie 's plan allows America to become the land it is said to be in The New Colossus. This allows anyone in America, here for a certain amount of time to become a true citizen without the fear of deportation. Just entering a country doesn’t automatically lead to acceptance.
