The United States of America is known as the land of the free. This is a place where anyone near or far can come to find independence. Our country of built on the on the simple foundation of independence, and yet the candidates for are debating on whether or not to build a wall to keep Mexicans for crossing the border. We have fences and border patrol, isn’t that enough? Trump doesn’t think so, but this wall is not just there to keep people out. Donald Trump is trying to be remembered and this wall is his plan. The wall is more than just a wall. It has negative symbolism that will make the United States look like a prison. People will no longer be able to look at our beautiful country the way Emma Lazarus described it.
“From her beacon hand glows a warm wide welcome.” This statement from The New Colossus written by Emma Lazarus has a serious meaning. It means that the united states welcome everyone no matter what color, sex, race, or nationality they are. Yes, people have to take a test to become a residence of the United States and yes, many Mexicans cross the border illegally, but if fences and a river didn’t stop them how will a wall. “Border Fencing Is Bad Policy” According to Melanie Mason, the author of “Border Fencing Is Bad Policy”, the United States should not build a fence that spans the border of Mexico. There are 12 million undocumented immigrants living in America, and the author claims that a fence will stop nothing. The government has been trying to put more barriers between America and severely restrict immigration, but according to Mason, “the border fence is a political band-aid for a larger policy problem.” By using evidence and appealing to human compassion, Mason convinces the reader that a border fence is unnecessary and a small issue covering up a larger one.…

It’s coming from Mexico. It’s coming from the south and Latin America and it’s coming, probably, from the Middle East, but we don’t know because we have no protection.” As a result of the immigrants coming into America, Trump wants to create the immigration plan. If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…

In the 2016 presidential election, both candidates Hillary R. Clinton a Democrat and Donald J. Trump a Republican have stated their plans for immigration. Donald Trump believes that bigger fence comes with greater defense; he proposes that to end illegal immigration is by building a big and an impregnable wall, where “Mexico will pay for it” (Porter). While that might sound good and interesting to see be done, it 's highly unnecessary. For all we know the wall is already there, which is a fence across large stretches of the southwestern border completely surrounded by drones, sensors and army agents (Porter). So if undocumented immigrants, in ways unknown, bypass the fences, what make a wall so different?…
