When people think of a psychologist they always seem to think that it is for adults only. The mental health of children however, is sometimes overlooked. Adults believe that kids do not have any problems because their life is supposed to be happy. But kids go through stress and psychological disorders, in fact, according research 20% of children in the United States suffer from some sort of mental illness each year. Upon considering obtaining a degree in child counseling psychology I discovered how important it is to take time to learn as much as we can about the type of work in this field, job vacancies, pros and cons of the field, as well as learning how long it would take to graduate.
As a child counseling phycologist I would be helping kids with many problems. My job would be to help children become mentally and emotionally stable and happy with their life by using different techniques. Some problems that kids deal with is depression, ranges from anxiety to depression and mental health conditions. Or disorders such as; domestic violence, sexual abuse, eating disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. When helping them deal with their problems I would be using a technique call psychological theory (psychological theory is the science that deals with mental process and behavior). Another technique used by psychologists is through “play therapy”. Play therapy is used to encourage kids to act out their fantasies and express their feelings through play. When using play…
