Counseling psychology deals with helping people gain control over their emotions. Other than influences due to technology, it is hard to accurately predict the future of counseling psychology research, beyond saying that unless something alters the trajectory counseling psychology research will be much like it is now. We will continue to examine the same populations, topics, and settings that we have researched for decades (Fouad, 2013). Loneliness, fear, and anger are all emotions that people have dealt with in the past and psychologists will continue to deal with in the future.
