Climate change is a problem that has been plaguing our world for far too long. The millennials have realized this and are taking action. They have stepped up to the plate and have begun taking action against climate change. Climate change is already contributing to the deaths of nearly 400,000 people a year and costing the world more than $1.2 trillion, wiping 1.6% annually from global GDP(powerpoint). These are not small numbers. This is an issue that can no longer be ignored, with some of the world’s most influential leaders, including Pope Francis saying now is the time to act on this man made problem. It is time now to not say “it’s an issue the next generation has to deal with” but to deal with it now.
One of the most influential people in the world, Pope Francis, has come out and spoken about the issue of climate change. He has acknowledged that it is a real, man made issue. Pope
Francis puts a lot of the blame on consumerism. He addresses how insatiable consumerism that has made us unable to distinguish between what we need and what we want. We always have to have the most recent piece of technology, clothing, cars, and so many other things. As great as it is to have the most recent thing, it does not help our growing problem of over using resources, leading to climate change.
