Climate change is an extraordinarily important problem, and requires immediate and radical government intervention on the sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change’s effects are already being felt around the globe in the form of coral bleaching, erratic and extreme precipitation and weather patterns, rising sea levels, arctic ice melt, and unprecedented record temperatures. If mitigation efforts are not implemented, it will impose epoch-making impacts geographically, environmentally, socially, and economically. Countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Costa Rica, and Iceland are at the forefront of renewable energies and climate change policies, and should be inspiration for implementation in the United States. Each country has had a differing approach to the minimization of greenhouse gas emissions, and their implementation goes to show that a shift towards renewable energies and other sustainable technologies will not cripple a country’s economy. Our country has an irrational and preventable dependance on fossil fuels, and a mass disinformation campaign funded by fossil fuel interests that need to end.
