Intestinal worms greatly affect the intellectual and physical growth of children. Therefore, deworming children allows them to be more alert and attentive in school. As a result of deworming children will no longer be ill and will be capable of attending school regularly. For example, Half the Sky discussed a study that was conducted in Kenya which found that deworming students lead to a decrease in absenteeism by a quarter. According to the World Bank, the program has proven to increase high school attendance of girls in school by 20 percent. Lastly, menstruation management is also another cost-effective method to increase school attendance of girls. For example, in Africa girls reuse old rags during their periods and will often stay home to avoid embarrassment from leaks and stains. If girls have access to pads, tampons, and toilets during school female attendance will increase. One example of this provided by Half the Sky, is of an organization called FemCare. This organization makes tampons and pads and started its own project by building toilets in schools and providing free pads to girls in Africa.
