Ergonomic consideration for Draughtsman
Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the people who use them. Ergonomics applies to the design of anything that involves people – workspaces, sports and leisure, health and safety. Ergonomics is a branch of science that aims to learn about human abilities and limitations, and then apply this learning to improve people’s interaction with products, systems and environments. Ergonomics aims to improve workspaces and environments to minimise risk of injury or harm. So as technologies change, so too does the need to ensure that the tools we access for work, rest and play are designed for our body’s requirements.

Most drafters work full time.Drafters usually work in comfortable offices. Because they spend long periods in front of computers doing detailed work, drafters may be susceptible to eyestrain, back discomfort, and hand and wrist problems. Most drafters work a standard 40-hour week; only a small number work part time. Therefore, computer ergonomic is important to the draughtsman. Every time they work, take time to adjust workstations that are not quite right in order to minimize awkward and frequently performed movements.
Recommendation of the guidlines for monitor placement is eye to screen distance should be at least 25”, preferably more. Vertical location of the monitor should be the viewing area between 15° and 50° below horizontal eye level. The monitor tilt consider the top of monitor slightly farther from the eyes than the bottom of the monitor. Next is the lightling that suppose are ceiling susupended, indirect lighting. So use blinds and shades to control outside lights. Then the screen colours of the monitor also preferable darks letter on a light background
