First things first though; there are just a few items you will need in order to get started.
A base coat and top coat. (No, these are not interchangeable.)
At least two nail polishes in different colors, and a white.
Tape, liquid tape, or liquid latex
A make up sponge. Any kind will do, you can get a pack fairly cheap from the dollar store.

Then grab your make up sponge and your two nail polish colors you picked out. Your going to paint lines of the two colors onto the sponge, overlapping eachother slightly, and making sure the area covered by the polish on the sponge is large enough to cover your entire nail; then sponge the colors onto the nail.
You will need to repeat this process several times in order to get the opacity you want or need to get the full coverage. The white nail polish underneath will help this process, especially if you are using neon or otherwise bright colors, the white will help them to pop. It usually takes about 2-3 coats of the sponged on nail polish to get the best coverage and gradient effect, but it could take more depending on the nail polish being used.
Once you have the look you like, peel off the liquid tape/latex that you used while the nail polish is still wet to get the cleanest lines; then clean up anything missed by the barrier with your clean up brush or Q-tips and nail polish remover.
Now you have the perfect gradient! Hopefully you found that as easy as we did and will keep practicing to get even better results the next time you try
