Everyone in existence is set apart by culture. It is what helps every individual learn how to act and handle themselves, which makes everyone different. Culture is a place of acceptance and providing each individual with how and why they should act like they do. It protects and brings people, a group, together. “Culture refers to sets of learned and patterned behaviors and beliefs that a group of people view as reasonable, normal, and timeless” (MindEdge, 2.05, 2016). Guardians of the Galaxy represents many cultures within the film, where groups have norms and values that they believe in and live by. Two specific cultures represented were Mortals and the people of Knowhere. Mortals are one culture seen in the movie that live on planet Earth.

The people of Knowhere, Yondu and his men, believe it is normal to travel from planet to planet to meet and talk to other people within the universe. They have a ship where they mostly live and spend the majority of their time in, and live within a futuristic environment. Yondu in the beginning of the movie thought is was normal to abduct Peter and take him into his own culture, instead of completing his mission of bringing him to his father. He lies and never tells Peter about his father. Yondu also taught Peter how to become a thief, which is a norm in this culture. It is a norm for the Ravagers to be part of anything dangerous and be involved in illegal work, such as abducting Peter from Earth and keeping him for themselves. There are no rules this culture follows. They believe they can kill, fight, and do what every they want. This culture finds it normal to make fun of other as well, such as when Yondu pretends to mock the broker by speaking gibberish. This culture communicates mostly through spoken language and through facial expressions. Each individual has a different physical appearance, such as being blue or red, but they all wear the same type of clothing. Individuals are all wearing red. Their clothing is dark and are suits. Every member of this group carries a gun as well. The Ravagers believe it is normal to lie, steal, kill, and do what they want to. Yondu does believe that Peter had grown up well and that it is was a good idea that they did not bring him to his father like they were suppose to do. In fact, Peter has taken on some of this culture’s qualities, such as when Yondu and Peter say: "We do not do that to each other! We 're Ravagers! We have a code!"
