Victor claims, “one hand was stretched out, seemingly to detain me, but I escaped” (28), but if Creature wanted to hurt him, he would have done it easily considering he has a “few” inches compared to Victor. Rather than trying to detain Victor, Creature was simply reaching out to feel what human contact is and show affection. Another time Creature tried making a friend was with a kind, old, blind man. When Creature associated with the blind man, he and the man were both very polite to one another. The blind man simply offered Creature something to eat, but Creature responded, “do not trouble yourself my kind host; I have food; it is warmth and rest that I need” (70). Creature did not want to be served by him, nor did he want to harm his host. They actually got along pretty well before their conversations were interrupted by the blind man’s kids, who judged Creature by his looks and threw him out of the house. Two people, so far, have done nothing, but deny Creature because they are afraid of his looks and don’t give him a chance to prove himself. This makes Creature think he needs to target younger humans, in hopes that they are too juvenile to think Creature’s looks express his personality. One kid Creature approached was named William, but William began screaming in fear. Creature tried talking to him by saying, “child what is the meaning of this? Creature started realizing that love was hard to find when he was chased out of town by villagers. “Here then I retreated, and lay down happy to have found a shelter, however miserable from the season and from barbarity of man” (59). Creature is feeling even more abandonment than before. He does not understand why people are discriminating against him, even though he has only been showing kindness. Back when Creature was talking with the blind man, he said, “I am an unfortunate and deserted creature; I look around, and I have no relation or friend upon Earth” (71). Creature has openly expressed that he does not mean to cause harm, that he simply just wants a companion that will love him as much as he loves them. Later on, Creature starts noticing hetrosexual relationships. He then approaches his master saying, “I am alone, and miserable; man will not associate with me… You must create a female for me” (81). He is so desperate for love, that he is asking for a companion to be made for him, in hopes that this new female creature will recognize they both need each other. It’s sad that someone who has been kinder than most, is lonelier than all. Especially since his own master won’t be there for
