Imagery is used as a key device to show how birth order influences the personality traits of siblings. In the case of The Hunger Games and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe imagery is used to reinforce Katniss’s role as Prim’s guardian figure. This is evident when Katniss wakes up one day to find out Prim is gone, “When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold. My fingers stretch out, seeking Prim’s warmth but finding only the rough canvas cover of the mattress. She must have had bad dreams and climbed in with our mother(Collins 3)”.The imagery in this quotes serves two purposes. The first is to show that it is ingrained in Katniss’s personality to protect her sister Prim. The second is to show that Prim is just an innocent child that is under the guidance of her older sister. The next example is seen when Lucy tells her older siblings about Narnia, “The two elder ones did this without meaning to do it” (Lewis ). It is common for Older siblings to think that their younger siblings are sometimes making up stories. The image created here shows that despite the fact that Susan and Peter think Lucy is making up a story they are still kind to her because they are her older siblings. This strongly exhibits that they possess traits such as patience and tolerance
