Nearly half of the 20 million new sexually transmitted diseases are diagnosed each year are among ages 15–24. (Alice, 2016)The highest infection rates being in the age group 20-24.(Alice 2016) It is not hard to see why since around early to mid twenties is the age where most young adults spend their time in college. College students are more likely to get a infection due to the lack of education and the large number of sex partners they have. (Alice 2016)Can a person backtrack to figure out which of the many partner they have gave them a STD? It all depends if a person has a lot of partners in a short time, then the possibility that they would be able to figure out who gave them a STD is lower than if a person does not have a lot of partner …show more content…
“Several studies have shown that transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, often involves persons with multiple and sometimes anonymous sex partners”. (Elizabeth 200)So having less partners as well as knowing your partner well decrease the possibility of a individual getting some type of std. The Women 's health clinic of Atlanta posted a chart that showed the number of people you have been exposed to if you and your partner have had the same number of partners. If both people had 2 partners the exposure risk is only three people however by the time both you and your partner have had 10 partners each the exposure risk is over 1000 different partners and while that is in an ideal world where partners have an equal ratio but regardless it shows the point that the less partners over long periods of time such as a faithful monogamous marriage greatly reduce …show more content…
The people who increase the amount of individual getting infected are usually those who arent aweare they have a std.So inorder to lower down the std rate and the cost it is inportant to properly educate people. What might be common sense to some isn 't to many like the fact that educated individual know that many STDs can be treatable, although there are some that are not treatable, one must be careful. If an STD is left untreated, more complicated health problems can arise. In the United States, an estimated 15 million people become infected with one or more STDs each year. In addition, an estimated 65 million people live with an incurable STD. Still, less than half of adults 18 to 44 years of age have ever been tested for an STD other than HIV/AIDS (SIECUS, 2003). These numbers are alarming because 15 million people is a lot that have one or more STDs, and 65 million people live with an incurable STD. The following numbers are pretty high with those individuals having an STD. this statistic could be lower or possibly avoided just by being educated.I know it 's awkward and most people do not feel comfortable asking questions related to sex and std. Being in a doctor’s office and having the doctor ask you about your sexual life can sometimes be uneasy or uncomfortable. (5) Figure 1 shows that the overall number of notifications of chlamydia have risen over the nine year period, more importantly highlighting that the 20-24 year old age group is overrepresented, closely followed by the 15-19 year old age group. This further cements the claim that young Australians contribute to the majority of chlamydia notifications, and that public health interventions must be aimed at this age group in order to decrease the rate of chlamydia. In young Australians, chlamydia contributed to 90%of the 57,119 notifications of the four most common STIs (gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia and donovanosis) in 2012, having a tenfold increase over a 21 year period (1991-2012) (3). In 2012 the incidence rate of chlamydia was 1,663 cases per 100,000 young Australians, contributing to 81%of overall notifications (Figure 2) (3).…
