1. Garvey was criticized for negotiating with the *Ku Klux Klan (KKK). Discuss his rationale. Why was this a good or bad idea?
I believe that Garvey had such a powerful drive , due to having more followers than other leaders. Not to state the fact that he assembled with the Ku Klux Klan from time to time to hash out their shared interest, more so getting Africans back to Africa. An asset that not many have had the ability to do. Although he lacked the right skills to be an actual leader of an organization, However, he did hold what was most important the understanding and the drive to embrace race pride and race solidarity; the major theme of the Harlem Renaissance. I personally believe it 's not what you know but it’s what you can do, practically saying Garvey may not have been the most educated of what he was doing but he knew what had to be done and what wasn 't right and what needed to be changed. The Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) was a group that was one of the most important organizations of the twentieth century. The UNIA was an organization designed to uplift the Negro and to help them clear a path into the new world. In doing so the UNIA had basically showed the world that African Americans withhold the spirit of wanting to be better themselves and their conditions, this attitude alarmed other races.
