There are many career opportunities inside of a hospital environment and each individual occupation plays a specific role and takes care of certain tasks. Despite the fact these jobs work towards the same goals, they are all very different. The field of medical technology consists of analyzing a variety of blood, tissue, body fluid and microorganism samples. “Preparing the samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously, and accurately interpreting the results are all part of a medical technologist’s job” (Medical Technologist). They identify specific microorganisms to pin point specific diseases, although medical technologists do not make the diagnoses, their finding help other medical professions make the diagnoses themselves. They also do things like determine contents within blood or body fluids and cross-match blood for transfusions. While doing all of this, medical technologists must maintain quality control and all the equipment they use. This career is excellent for individuals who are drawn to the health and sciences area but want to avoid patient interaction. “The median annual Medical Technologist salary is $65,158, as of November 30, 2016, with a range usually between $59,699-$72,676” (Medical Technologist Salaries).
