This essay will explain one of the U.S. environmental law. Summarizing major provisions as well as the economic impact of the law. The effect of global warming will be explained as well as weather the U.S. should adopt additional policies to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

The Clean Water Act This paper will discuss the Clean Water Act. The law also known as the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, was initially passed in 1948. It was expanded in 1972, becoming the Clean Water Act (EPA, 2016). This essay will summarize the provision of this law as well as the economic impact. It will explain if anything the law has improved. Additionally, global warming and policies adopted to curb greenhouse gas emissions will be further discussed. The burning of the Cuyahoga River help creates the Clean Water Act. When the Cuyahoga River caught fire in Cleveland in 1969, it became the symbol of out-of-control pollution needing to passed the Clean Water Act. The Cuyahoga River had been on fire 13 times dating back to the late 1800’s. In 1969 the fire it ultimately led to the passage of the Clean Water Act in 1972. The clean water states that its unlawful to discharge any pollutant from any point source to any bodies of water, unless a permit is obtained. It further eradicated polluted water in 1985, and made sure that waters were up to standards for humans supported by 1983. The Clean Water Act has led to some positives and negative economic impacts.
