“When I had journeyed half of our life’s way, I found myself within a shadowed forest, for I had lost the path that does not stray” (Inferno 3). Realistically, my journey to the underworld cannot be described in such poetic terms. That quote just came from a book that I read during my freshman year in college. I died on April 10th, 2018, on my 21st birthday, in an alcohol induced accident, caused by my friend Erin. On that fateful night, my friend Erin and I were walking down Commonwealth Avenue, returning home from the seventh bar of the night, reveling in our ability to drink legally. Several of my friends had been present throughout the night, but Erin and I were the last to return home, reveling in our new freedom. While walking down the street, Erin grabbed my shoulder trying to keep herself steady, while I attempted to walk in a straight line down the pavement. Erin slurred, “Linda that has been the beeesssssttt birthday party ever! We should do this again.” Laughing raucously I responded, “Of course! I’ve been trying to party with you for years, but right now we need to get home. Which way is Hojo?” “Ah there it is!” screamed Erin, grabbing my arm, pulling me into the street. Unfortunately, neither of us noticed the oncoming traffic and the Boston University Shuttle promptly ran us over. While I lay there dying, I asked the Lord for forgiveness, hoping that it would be enough repentance for the sins that I had committed. Then, I died. Waking up is always a…
