Sociological imagination is the idea that someone can relate their own personal experiences to those of the wider society, taking into account the social contexts and issues that surround his or her own issues. The macro part of the relationship here was the cultural impact that America had on other countries. The US has been able to spread their work throughout the world, so that the speaker could know their culture before ever having visited. The micro level here is that the speaker was able to shaper her interactions with Americans because of the global impact the US had. She did not ever think to assume that since she had read a book where the main character was an American serial killer that all Americans would be the same. The US’s imact was big enough to affect the Nigerian libraries’ reading selections so much that the speaker had an abundance of examples of what Americans could be
