The Crucible: Literary Analysis
Have you ever been made felt weak by another person, have you ever felt like others tell you how to control your life but theirs is falling apart, have you ever felt like you had to get even with someone who’s done you wrong? The drama The Crucible is about a false witch hunt based on revenge and personal gain, taken place in Salem. The characters in this drama use accusations of witchery against their enemies to get revenge for wrong doings. Characters let their pride and reputation get in the way of their good judgment and allow power and guilt to control their lives. The Crucibles use of weakness, hypocrisy, and vindictiveness allows conflict to build and an intriguing plot line to develop.
The use of weakness and hypocrisy in the play allows the readers to further understand development in conflict and plot. During the affair between Abigail Williams and John Proctor, Abigail was able to fall in love with John; he was able to show her that even though the Puritans seemed to be pure people they all had their own secret sins. Abigail was able to build an inner weakness for John Proctor. This shows the reader that even the people who hold the most power have a weakness; once that weakness is revealed, conflict is built.
I look for John Proctor that took me from my sleep and put knowledge in my heart! I never knew what pretense Salem was, I never knew the lying lessons I was taught by all these Christian women and their covenanted men! And…
