In the fifth week of class we were assigned to write about a topic that was research-supported and cause-effect. My research essay had pieces of it that were successful as well as pieces that were problematic. The assignment was thought provoking and I ended up writing around six pages. It required a bit of discernment and there were a few challenges I had to overcome. It was a good experience to be able to choose the topic as well as have my own take and explanations of what the causes and effects were. Overall my essay was a success, but there is always much room for improvement.

Eventually (the topic I chose for the essay was on the causes of memory loss and dementia. One of the hardest parts of writing the essay was determining a topic. At this time I am pursuing a degree in general studies, or in other words, my degree is undecided and I do not know what exactly I want to study. The topics were broken down based on which discipline us students were majoring in. Narrowing down the topics was a vague task because you could almost choose any topic ranging from Computer Information, communication, science, art, finance, etc. At first I thought this was a bad thing because when I have a huge amount of options, I usually bounce around a lot and take longer to make a decision. However more options turned out to work out, because I got to pick a topic that was intriguing and caught my attention.
