“Cloning is a cell, cell product or organism that is genetically identical to the unit or individual from which it was derived.”

Tetra was created in the Oregon National Primate Research Centre in Portland, United States of America by a team that was led by Professor Gerald Schatten. Professor Gerald Schatten did not the use the same technique used to produce Dolly the sheep but a new technique which is explained later.
Why tetra was the chosen to be cloned
Gerald Schatten believed by creating identical monkeys, that advances could be made in human medical research.

This process had only ever been used in cattle and was the first time it was used in monkeys.
Using embryo splitting Tetra the monkey was created, a process where the cells in the embryo are split at the eight–cell stage to create four identical two cell embryos. Tetra was the first monkey that had been successfully cloned using this process. She was the first primate to have been cloned using this "splitting" technique. Using different techniques of cloning the first non-human primate were created in 1997 by nuclear transfer. Only two of the four embryos survived to the stage where the surrogate could carry the embryos. Tetra was the only one to be delivered successfully after 157 days. On January 13, 2000, when tetra was four months old the announcement of her was made to the
