Theodore Roosevelt became the nation’s youngest president in 1901. He became the 26th president, right after President William McKinley was assassinated. Theodore was known for his anti-monopoly policies and his ecological conservationism. Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858. He was born in New York City, New York. He was born into a wealthy family. He came from a Dutch heritage. His family owned a plate-glass import business, that was very successful. Theodore was known to his family members as Teddy. Teddy would spend a lot of time with his family. When Teddy was a young boy he had to be home schooled because he had a illness and he also had asthma. With him being home schooled it allowed him to be interested

While he was getting back into the swing of the political life, he married his second wife. His second wife was a girl that he had known from his childhood. His second wife was Edith Kermit Carow. After he had remarried to Edith, he resumed his career. He continued first as being a civil service commissioner, then he became a New York City police commissioner, he was also a assistant for the United States Navy Secretary under President William McKinley. Teddy eventually took an interest in the Spanish-American War. He left his government post to help a volunteer cavalry. The cavalry was known as the Rough Riders. His involvement in the group was that he had led a group up to San Juan Hill in the Battle of San Juan Heights. The battle had happened in 1898. Teddy was known as a war hero. He was nominated a Medal of Honor. Then in 1898, he was elected the governor of New York.
During the United States Presidency, Teddy was involved in many opportunities. Republican Parties plotted Teddy by naming him on the McKinley ticket, in the thankless post of the vice president. Then Teddy had a re-election in 1901. In 1901, that was when President McKinley had been assassinated. Teddy was 42, when he became the President of the United States.
