TUBERCULOSIS

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis and spreads through the air by a person who is suffering from TB. It can also spread by contact or sharing of fluids. If an infected person coughs on his or her hands and wiped them on someone else, or spit from their mouth flies into someone else 's mouth, there is a very high chance of infection. This type of tuberculosis is called Latent TB. If it turns into active tuberculosis then the virus will start to tear at the scar tissue and most likely spread to the lungs (Ramen). TB needs to be treated before it becomes active and spreads into the lungs, kidneys, or brain. People can walk around without knowing if they have TB. Tuberculosis is a slow growing organism and would take about four to eight weeks to appear in tests. It spreads fast, but it grows very slowly and can be very unnoticeable. The Tuberculosis virus takes time to get treated, but those who get treated right away may be in luck. The sooner somebody knows about the virus, the more chances they have of surviving it. Everybody is unprepared for the disease, but that is why doctors say that getting checked is the best way to go. Doctors want to know if there is a virus eating away at the person and if there is any way they can still help before it is too late ("Tuberculosis: Signs and Symptoms"). Doctors that work in health care facilities are risking themselves each day just to help those that need treatment for TB. Sometimes a lot of people are not even aware that they have it, it is also important that the person knows with who he or she is with and where they are. Since the virus is fatal, it is always important to know where the high-risk areas of infection are, like some of them could be South-East Asia, Europe, Indonesia, or even Africa and North America. When a person finds out that they have TB, it can be very shocking. That is why therapists are sometimes needed to help calm down a person who has just found out they have the deadly virus. It was also mentioned that men would almost always have a positive result for Active Tuberculosis, this means that they have a different social nature than women do (Schoenstadt). Tuberculosis can happen to anyone regardless of age, it can happen to children of
