Having the sympathy for someone who has done a wrong can be difficult, however, seeing how the situation came about can change the way you feel about the person. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth is loyal to his rightful King and obeyed all his orders, although when Lady Macbeth began to speak she poisoned his mind for the crave of power. His crave for power then began to take over his self awareness and self control, Macbeth only had his mind set on power. Once Macbeth is able to realize himself he must kill Duncan, he states, “Stars, hide your fires: Let not lights see my black and deep desires” (Act 1. Sc. 4. Ln. 58). Macbeth conveys to the audience how although he must kill Duncan, he has to commit the act against his own will. Originally, Macbeth would have never even considered of killing his own king, but the concept of control overpowers his loyalty. By concealing his murder from others, Macbeth shows how he is unwilling to take the consequences that come along with murder. This shows that Macbeth is acting unnaturally and out of his true character. Later on, Macbeth tells the audience again, “I [Macbeth] have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition” (Act 1. Sc. 7. Ln. 28). Because Macbeth is scared of what can happen if he kills Duncan, he shows how he is driven by false ambition. Macbeth does not need to kill Duncan nor take his spot at the throne, but does both because the witches and his own wife tempt him. Macbeth still has morals, but only commits the act because he feels pressured by the witches, himself, and his own wife, Lady…

Macbeth is reluctant to murder the king because he is not only aware of how morally compromising it would be, but he is also afraid of the consequences. He worries about the “even-handed justice” that he will receive for the crime committed (1.7.10). Macbeth displays more concern about his reputation than being crowned monarch. He doubts himself and his ability to cleanly execute the plan not because of inexperience, but because his moral code distracts him from his accumulating greed. In the same way he previously displays weakness, Macbeth’s lack of confidence factors in his hesitant thoughts of murder. He already feels responsible for Duncan’s death, and the guilt prevents him from continuing his plan. Macbeth’s loyalty gives him no reason to kill Duncan, and he is unable to live with himself knowing that Duncan’s kingdom “will plead like angels” (1.7.19). Duncan’s intentions were never bad nor dishonest. Macbeth pities himself, not wanting others to think poorly of him. Macbeth’s uncertainty makes him look weak and the audience is able to detect his…

He kept killing even though he knew the consequences. One can clearly see that Macbeth did not have a guilty conscience, right from when he heard the prophecies, and started to think about killing the King. He did whatever he needed to do to stay king and to make sure that no one found out that he had killed the King. Even after Macbeth killed King Duncan, he felt threatened by Banquo and the generation of heirs he would produce, so he decided to kill him. In Act 5 scene 5 line 7-15, Macbeth heard a woman scream, and asked what that was. The Seyton replied and said it was a woman that screamed. Macbeth then said, “ I have almost forgot the taste of fears; the time has been, my senses would have cool’d, to hear a night-shriek; and my fell of hair would at a dismal treatise rouse and stir as life were in’t.” Macbeth did not react to the scream which reflected on himself. The importance this quote has as a whole is to prove that Macbeth is actually evil in a sense that he does not care about the woman nor does he care about the people he had killed. Macbeth does not feel remorse for the woman or for any of the murders that he had committed. He does not think twice about what he had done and who he had killed. Macbeth’s clear conscience made him kill multiple times without him feeling any signs of guilt or remorse, which shows that for a fact, he is evil. Macbeth does not only have a guilty conscience, he was not forced into murdering the King, Banquo or Macduff’s family. He made those ideas all by…

Firstly, the act in which the witches give the prophecy about Macbeth’s future status most clearly defines Macbeth’s personality; he almost immediately considers murder to be a plausible way to gain power after being honoured by the king, stating, “Let not light see my black and deep desires.” Later in the play, the words of the witches are still influencing Macbeth; he sought out the witches to demand an explanation and another prophecy. Macbeth reacts more hesitantly to Lady Macbeth, denying her suggestions fiercely--even so, Macbeth agreed to murder the king after his wife assured him that their plan would succeed. Macbeth, stated, “ I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself and falls on the other.” In other words, Macbeth, even after admitting that there was no real need to kill the king, still murders Duncan, wanting his power for himself.…

Tragedy befalls upon those who let evil infect their lives and those who refuse to resist it. William Shakespeare’s tragedy play, Macbeth, emulates the truth that when poor morality surrounds the faint of heart and impressionable people of the world, it proves difficult to resist it. Macbeth, the main protagonist in Shakespeare’s play, exhibits these plastic qualities that allowed him to follow a path of darkness and suffering brought by himself. At the play’s premise, Macbeth showed great promise of living an honorable life, but with the prophecy of ultimate power, his ambition to make it so won out. Macbeth, the once honored warrior, fell from his noble path due to his greed for power and the evil that surrounded his weak-hearted soul.…

There he realizes that by killing King Duncan “justice commends the ingredients of our poisoned chalice to our own lips” (1.7.10-12). In this quote, Macbeth is saying how justice will cause him to suffer the same fate as King Duncan. If he kills King Duncan, then he will be killed in the end. This is an example of Macbeth making his own decisions. The last scene, he was sure that he wanted to kill the king, but now he is true to himself and thinks of the consequences that might come from killing his king. Macbeth has free will and can choose what he wants to do with his life. But this changes when another character (Lady Macbeth) launches his motivation to again become king. Lady Macbeth questions his manhood and promotes him to make the wrong choice. She says, “What beast was ’t, then, that made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man” (1.7.47-49); By questioning his manhood, she is making Macbeth ashamed to be in her presence. She is making him feel as though she is more masculine and manlier than him. She knows that by saying these things Macbeth will do anything he can to please her. Macbeth then had to choose if he would listen to Lady Macbeth and choose the wrong path or stick to his own decision. Macbeth still has a choice. This shows how he has free will because he has to make a choice. Lady Macbeth has no supernatural powers and did…

When his wife first informed Macbeth that he was a coward who wouldn’t be able to kill in order to gain power, he was in shock. He was skeptical of the thought of even having to kill Duncan to obtain the power he sought for. “First as I am his kinsman and his subject, strong both against the deed; then, as his host who should against his murderer shut the door, not bear the knife myself” (Act 1 scene 7 line 13). In this quote Macbeth is looking inside himself for the killer Lady Macbeth called upon. When he can not find it he comes across rational thought as to why he shouldn’t kill King Duncan: He is Duncan’s loyal man as well as allowing him to stay in Macbeth’s house, he should be protecting Duncan’s life not putting it in danger. Once he loses his grip on his realization of his morals he kills Duncan. Once the killing is over Macbeth begins to have haunting thoughts and guilt to the point where he begins to feel crazy. “Methought I heard a voice cry, “Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep” (Act 2, sc. ii, line 35). In this quote it can be seen that he is starting to become guilty and imagines voices in his head that prevent him from sleeping. He switches from a rational loyal man to the cold-blooded killer his wife thought herself to be. They essentially switched roles. Had he realized his true self he would not have made such a big mess of things. All it took was separating illusion…

Macbeth does not start the play in a murderous state of mind, but as soon as the witches inform him that he is destined to become king, he slowly starts doing whatever it takes to secure that position of authority (McGuinness 71). At first, one can easily blame the witches, as they were clearly trying to test Macbeth’s reaction when they declare “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!” (1.3.50). Lady Macbeth also manipulated him significantly throughout the play. When Macbeth starts to have second thoughts about killing King Duncan, Lady Macbeth quickly attempts to persuade him by asking “art thou afeard // To be the same in thine own act and valor // As thou art in desire?” (1.7.39-41). However, these examples of manipulation would not be so effective if Macbeth did not already have a dangerous thirst for power. When he sees that the coming kings are Banquo’s descendants, he declares it a “Horrible sight!” (4.1.122), and immediately plans to murder massive amounts of people in an attempt to secure his place on the…
