Prospective Memory in Schizophrenia: Relationship to Medication Management Skills, Neurocognition, and Symptoms in Individuals With Schizophrenia The purpose of this paper is to examine the methods and results from the experiment of The Relationship to Medication Management Skills, Neurocognition, and Symptoms in Individuals With Schizophrenia. In this experiment, a standardized test is given to fourty-one individuals who suffer from schizophrenia and twenty-five healthy adults. This test included the measures of prospective memory, medication management skills, neurocognition and symptoms. Each were given $30 for their time. Exclusions for both side of the participants were made. The healthy adults could not have any visual or auditory impariments, any proof of mental retardation, tramatic brain injury with sustained loss of consiousness, present or past documentation of neurologic or pychiatric illness, history of substance abuse or dependance or lack proficiency in english. The Schizophrentic patients came from The Schizophernia Rehabilition Program (SRP) of the Institute of Living at Hartfort Hospital located in Hartford, Connecticut and Intercommunity Mental Health care center located in East Hartford, CT. The Schizophrenic individuals had to meet a certain criteria, this includes: the criteria for schizophernia or schizoaffective diagnosis, inclusion criteria of sufficiant hearing and visual abilities, completion of a minimum of eight years of schooling, and fluency in english. What could cause one to be excluded from being eligable to be a participant is the current use of alcohol or current substance abuse, mental retardation that has been evidenced by a history of services, any neurologic or psychiatric illness, or recieving a current treatment with electroconvulsive therapy. With these exclusions, their Positive and Negative Syndome Scale (PANSS) scores were also collected to …show more content…
The participants were required to remember to perform a total of eight task when told to do so. For example: “when I hand you an envelope, self address it.” The participants was to do as they were told. Participants were to do many tasks simotaneously without writting down any clues that would help them to complete the task better. These task included a word search puzzle, access to a digital clock was given throughout the test.
