Summary Of Analyzing Peta's Advertisement

Five years ago, Peta released an ad featuring Pamela Anderson in a sexualized pose with various parts of her body labeled, corresponding to different cuts of meat. This ad is aimed to make it clear that humans and animals are formed of identical parts. On the top of the ad, it says “all animals have the same parts.” Just like humans, animals are made out of flesh, bone, blood and organs; they also have diverse traits, feelings and families. When I first saw the ad, I was taken by surprise. Previously knowing that Peta is an animal rights organization, I did not think they would released ads that sexualized and objectified women. But Peta is well known for hypersexualizing their ads while featuring famous celebrities. Peta does this because they know that sexual attraction is a fact of life and their campaign would be meaningless if they stayed civil. Animal bodies are used to normalize rape culture. In factory farming systems, female animals undergo a life of countless rapes and unending pregnancies. After they are used up, the animals are slaughtered. Just like in the human world, people view the woman's only job is to bear children and take care of them. Peta connects the abuse of animals and humans as similarities. The main purpose of the ad was to convey the message that animals are mistreated, although they are not too different from humans.
Since it is hard to be violent to someone you find as an equal, if we dehumanize them, then they will be easier to abuse. Because of the disconnection, men are capable of creating a widespread increase in violence. Animals are domestically harassed, something women and children experience regularly. The relation between violence against nonhuman animals and brutality against children and women displays how men hurt those people that are vulnerable and
