Summary: An Interview With Mrs. Nickie Brady

Running head: INTERVIEW 2 I did the following interview with Mrs. Nickie Brady who works as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in the state of Virginia at the Field Rehabilitation Services Division assisting the deaf and hard of hearing to make informed choices that will maximize their employment through coordinating services. Mrs. Brady shared with me that the deaf and hard of hearing people communicate in different ways, depending on several factors: age at which deafness began; type of deafness; language skills; amount of residual hearing; speechreading skills; speech abilities; personality; family environment; educational background; and personal preference. Mrs. Brady has hearing loss herself and uses American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with her clients. She works with different …show more content…
She provides a comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services which result in employment and enhanced independent living for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing while complying with federal, state and agency policy and procedures. Core vocational case management services may include guidance and counseling, training, physical/mental restoration, and job placement services. Caseload consists of adults with disabilities that are hard of hearing and deaf. Mrs. Brady has been working with this type of caseload for about 2 years now since she graduated with her master’s in vocational rehabilitation counseling and passing her CRC licensure. Mrs. Brady said integrating deaf and hard of hearing employees into the workforce may require adjustments for them. Mrs. Brady shared with me that she tries her very best to provide a lot of support for her clients in preparing them for employment. She
