Learning ASL took a long time and allowed me to be engaged in many events in the deaf community. I believe people in this population are not given nearly as much attention or opportunities as they should be. As a student eager to get out of the classroom and experience working in the mental health field, as well as interact with those suffering from mental illness, an internship was the logical next step to gain this type of knowledge.
