First, Thompson includes a series of imaginary cases to appeal her opinion on abortion. Throughout her article, as these ‘imaginary cases’ made her point easier to see, I couldn’t help but think... these are imaginary, and a bit irrelevant because most did not tie in with the abortion argument. Thompson compares a person being hooked up to a famous unconscious violinist, and a mother carrying a child to prove one of her points. By using this imaginary scenario, she tries to convince people that in not all circumstances, a person’s right to life outweighs a person’s right to their own body. (Thompson 104) The reason I find this scenario irrelevant is because it has nothing to do with a mother carrying a child. This scenario involves two adult strangers, while abortion is dealing with a mother and a child. Her stance on this specific scenario, did not in any way alter my opinion, I still believe that one’s right to life, outweighs the mother’s right to her body. Lastly I will interrogate Thompson’s statement, “First, while I do argue that abortion is not impermissible, I do not argue that it is always permissible.” I agree that sometimes abortion isn’t too bad to be allowed, depending on the circumstances. However I do not agree that an abortion should ALWAYS be allowed. For instance, should a mother that doesn’t want her baby just because she doesn’t want to be with the father or want to be judged be allowed to get an abortion? In my opinion, she shouldn’t be allowed to get an abortion in this situation, which is why I disagree that an abortion should always be
