“What We Talk About When We Talk About Race in America” I found a lot of points within the discussions from all three guests that suggest systematic racism. However, Paul Butlers touched heavily on structural discrimination being found in our society including blacks being targeted by police, making less money, not having access to housing benefits, and being overlooked for jobs, mortgages, loans, and other opportunities more available to whites. Each guest had a great deal of perspective to contribute to the conversation. Paul Butler, author and professor at Georgetown University, focused greatly on White privilege and structural discrimination. He talked about the lack of opportunity for blacks as well as the opportunities being given to white over blacks. John McWhorter, author, professor of linguistics and English at Columbia University, and contributor to TIME Magazine, made the point that white and blacks will never agree on what the problem with racism is making a conversation about it between races impossible. Heather MacDonald, author, fellow at the Manhattan Institute, and contributor for the City Journal, went on to discuss under-class problems.
