Even with all of the accomplishments that the women’s rights movement have brought to women, it is not enough. There are still people that out there that believe that women should be treated as an inferior because of their gender which included women still getting paid less than men. Another important example that shows the inequality is through rape culture; women go through victim blaming when they get raped. There are many ways in which people can help this situation, and the biggest one brings attention to all of these different injustices. One thing that I am have done already and am still in the process of doing is that I have written a paper on the SlutWalk movement and its focus on victim blaming and rape culture, and I will be presenting my research at the Midwest Sociological Society Conference. It explains what happens to women once they are blamed for getting raped and the differences based off of their culture and ethnicity and how it affects women. However, both stories made people think about how women are treated, both in the times that the stories took place and how they are treated in today’s time. The idea of masculinity has been in place for hundreds of years, and having people that go out of that norm is unusual. One man that did that to these stories was Mr. Wimsey because he took women’s opinions seriously and wanted to hear what they had to say about their situations. He knows that women face barriers all the time and wants to help women get through them. In today’s world women still have to face many barriers of different kinds; that being how they are viewed by others and their place in the workforce. Women still face discriminations in many of the things that they do, even after the years of hard work and progress that our ancestors have made throughout time. Being part of this movement and trying to end and bring awareness to the discrimination that still happens is very important to me. Letting people know with as much information that I can get, as many times as needed, helps bring awareness to the situation. Also having the opportunity to write a paper and present it in front of an academic community brings further awareness to the discrimination. As well as wanting to cause a change in the future with what I want to do will help bring change to the struggle that women face on a daily
