Valenti (2013) explains, as women grow up, they are taught to dismiss feminism in fear of coming off as unappealing. When women are told that feminists are ugly they are immediately turned off by it, not wanting to be seen as ugly themselves (Valenti 2013). It is also used as a way to ignore someone’s opinions and views, increasing the notion that women are not to have opinions and views, especially people who are viewed as “unattractive” (Valenti 2013). This also coincides with feminists hating men. The stereotype that feminists hate men leads people away from the movement. Tarrant (2013) best talks about gender and how people are not born being either masculine or feminine. Gender is not binary and because so many people think it is, it is not acceptable for men have real human emotions because the emotionality lies with the women. The theory that feminists hate men is immensely false. The movement wants to help men be more comfortable being however they are; to be more universally accepted as people, not as just a manly man who has a beard and laughs in the face of
