Jewad Selim always dreamed about having his most meaningful work at the capital of Iraq. The piece is called Nasib Al Hurea (Monument of Freedom), located in Tehrir Square, Baghdad. It represents the revolution of July 14, 1958 against the monarchy, as well as the British colonization to establish an Iraqi republic (Isaac). It contains fourteen images that illustrate the struggle of the Iraqi people striving to achieve their freedom. The fourteen images starts from right to the left the same way Arabic is written. East Liberty is a cultural diverse area in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's East End. Its beginnings came around the time of the Revolutionary War and East Liberty was a free, grazing area in Allegheny County a few miles away from a burgeoning new town called Pittsburgh. Back then the term "liberty" was used to describe a plot of land on the outskirts of a town. In about 1843, commercialism began industrializing the area, thus changing the formerly farmland to a village. In the 1960's shopping malls were added to aid in localizing business. Today, you can enjoy the East End of Pittsburgh, regardless of any reason. If you want to relax and hang out for a bit, head to Zeke's Cafe, where their menu is respectful to all dietary restrictions. More than…

I reached Washington D.C. only seven hours after I left Columbia, which meant that I still had half the day to visit. The main reason I stopped here was to visit the monuments. My first stop was the Washington Monument. The monument is a 555 foot marble tower, representing our first president, George Washington. The tower lays behind a giant pool, that is supposed to reflect the monument. After my first stop, I went to the Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln memorial is a lot different than the Washington Monument. The Lincoln memorial is a monument with Abraham Lincoln sitting on a chair in the middle of the white building. Next, I went to the Thomas Jefferson Monument. The statue of Thomas Jefferson also sat in the middle of a white building. After…

For my final week at the Truman Presidential Library and Museum I spent the majority of my time scanning more Lincoln Coins like I mentioned during my last reflections. I completed scanning and TMS Re-Entrying two more boxes that contained approximately fifty to seventy-five coins a piece. Needless to say, the Museum has a lot of these coins. When I left on Thursday, there were still six more boxes that no one had begun scanning. As a personal highlight of the internship, on Tuesday, I was able to oil an authentic 13th-century Japanese wakizashi (Samurai short sword) that was crafted by the legendary Japanese swordsman Masamune. It is perhaps the most precious artifact that the Truman Museum holds as there are only about a dozen of Masamune swords left in the world. On Thursday, I finished my last box of Lincoln Coins, was given an exit interview after lunch and then left the building.…

As the first colony to speak for America’s independence from Great Britain, Virginia spoke with the unanimous voices of the gentlemen who had gathered at the Capitol building on May 15, 1776. The Capitol building was the home of the House of Burgesses, the Governor’s Council and the General Court. The Capitol building should get a commemorative coin because it was historically significant in colonial times, it has relevance to citizens today, and the future can learn about the history of the Capitol in the colonial period.…

I chose the movie, Jefferson in Paris, for my research paper because I've always had a fascination with one of the premier intellects amongst our founding fathers: Thomas Jefferson. This fondness, as I've recently enrolled in a community college, had for a time been dashed into infinitesimal pieces. I still remember a conversation that I had with one of my professors on my first day of college. I, rather innocently, proclaimed to my teacher that I thought that Jefferson was a genius and deserved universal appraise, not only for his great intellectual dexterity and curiosity but was rather worthy of praise for his moral aptitude as well. My teacher, eyes turned fiery red, glared through my rather beguiled psyche and said outright that, "Jefferson…
