Athena Essay
Pallas Athena is one of the most recognizable of the gods and goddesses of mount Olympus today. As the embodiment of wisdom and truth, she is someone I look up too and would very much like to emulate. While other gods and goddesses have been forgotten, or recognized only in name, Athena prevails as very well know. Athena is remembered so well because she was a direct descendent of one of the big three and very powerful, because the things she represented inspired humans to do great feats in her name, and because she left such glorious imprints in the early civilization of the world. People of ancient times worshipped Athena and people of modern times still cherish the ideals and manifestations of what she stood for.

She represented tactics and planning and both these are visible in the artistic expressions. The most famous was of the Parthenon, which was named after her (Athena Parthenos), but there were many other statues and temples made to honor Athena as well. Because so many people worshiped Athena, her importance did not go away when some of the people did. She influenced such change and was proof a woman could be intelligent and fantastic in war, which is something many other religions/ civilizations did not accept. Her monuments were places of thought and reason, and she inspired many artists to create huge and fantastic works in her honor, such as the Athena statue from the Aphaea temple in Munich Glyptothek, Aegina, from 505-500 B.C which although now only exists as a restoration, is still breathtaking to …show more content…
By worshipping Athena, it is evident that they were very driven towards knowledge. In the early world, when much less was known than today, this goddess personified the never ceasing thirst for intelligence that propelled their civilization to amazing lengths. Athena began as a powerful thinker and warrior, but by the end, had transferred these qualities to the people. I wish today we lived in a world driven by knowledge, and not just personal ambitions. We do not think as a society, and we leave the contemplation to scholars and people whose job it is to study. We think we know everything we need to know, but we don’t. that is why Athena is so important, and why I idolize
